What you can build with the temp mail API

The temp mail API creates a disposable inbox from code, waits for the email your app sends, lets you read it and then deletes the inbox. It replaces hand-rolled mail servers in QA and signup testing, and non-developers can try the same flow in the tool above.

Test signup and email confirmation

Create a fresh inbox for every test run, submit it in your signup form, then read the confirmation email and follow the link. Works from Playwright, Cypress, Selenium or any HTTP client.

POST /api/v1/temp-mail/inboxes

Check password-reset and transactional mail

Trigger a reset or a receipt in staging and assert on the subject, sender and body returned by the API instead of opening a mailbox by hand.

GET /api/v1/temp-mail/inboxes/{inbox}/messages/{message}

Give each test its own address

Rotate to a new address when an address is already used by your app, or delete the inbox when the test ends so tests do not share mail.

POST /api/v1/temp-mail/inboxes/{inbox}/rotate

How the temp mail API works

  1. 1

    Create an inbox

POST /api/v1/temp-mail/inboxes returns an inbox ID and the address, with an optional lifetime and label you can set. Keep the ID for every later call.

  2. 2

    Read incoming mail

GET /api/v1/temp-mail/inboxes/{inbox}/messages lists messages. Open one with GET .../messages/{message} to fetch the full body.

  3. 3

    Rotate or delete

Rotate the address if you need a new one, or DELETE the inbox when you are done. Deleting is free.

Try the Temporary Email API with your own account

New accounts receive 200 credits after verification, enough for about 2000 calls to "Get inbox".

Using Temporary Email

Create an inbox first. Copy the returned address to receive mail, and keep the inbox ID for API calls.

Use Check mail to refresh. Open a message to fetch its full body; View sample email only previews the reader.

Rotating changes the address. Deleting or expiration ends access; automatic checks use trial calls or credits.

Temp mail API: frequently asked questions

What is a temp mail API?

It lets code create disposable email addresses and read the mail they receive over HTTP, so signup, verification and notification flows can be tested automatically. This is often called email testing, and it is covered by the temporary email API and disposable inbox endpoints.

Can I use it for accounts that matter?

No. Disposable inboxes are meant for testing. Do not use them for accounts you need to keep or recover.

How do I get the full message body?

The list endpoint returns message summaries. Call the get-message endpoint with the message ID to read the full content.

What happens when an inbox is deleted or expires?

Access to that inbox ends. Create a new inbox to continue testing; check the response of the create call for the expiry it reports.

How is it billed?

You pay credits per inbox created, per poll and per message read, and deleting is free. Prices are in the endpoint table below. New accounts receive 200 credits after verification.

Before integrating

Live and example data

Check the Live or Sandbox label before running. Examples demonstrate the response structure and do not guarantee live service status.

Credits and limits

Pricing depends on the endpoint and billable units. Failed live requests are not replaced with billable examples. Check your account limits before running repeated requests.

Handling errors

Keep the request ID for troubleshooting. For 429, respect Retry-After when provided. If a create or delete request loses its connection, check the resource state before retrying.
